LET'S CHANGE THE ORPHAN STATUS OF RARE DISEASES!
We have all heard about epidemics and pandemics caused by diseases like Covid 19 and HIV, which have wreaked havoc on staggering numbers of people worldwide. However, most of us never hear about rare diseases, which individually affect very few people, but because there are so many of them (between 6,000 and 8,000 according to the WHO), they affect millions of people. Sometimes also called “orphan” diseases - because they remain neglected in terms of research and available treatments – these diseases cause untold suffering since frequently they are misdiagnosed and therefore not treated adequately.
ZZ Association is dedicated to changing the orphan status of rare diseases so that these orphans of health care receive due attention in research, medical training of health-care workers, and the development of reliable treatments. ZZ Association believes that advancements made with rare diseases and cancers will also benefit many more common affections and allow for innovative treatments.
For a person affected by a rare disease, it is a painful and scary experience because health care becomes very expensive, inaccessible, or the patient is told that no treatments at all are available for his or her condition. It is the worst, most lonesome, and desperate feeling. ZZ Association hopes to bring hope and help to people all over the world. Together, we can help bring solutions to those in need. We aim to:
- Fund current research centres working on rare diseases and cancers and help establish new ones
- Fund expensive treatments for those in need
- Support efforts to change governmental regulations to expedite approval processes for new to treatments for rare diseases and cancers
- Lead activism for establishing laws that impose a minimum proportion of research funds to be allocated to the rare diseases.
